<p>If your WhatsApp gets hacked, you will unfortunately end up being locked out of WhatsApp. The Hacker will enable the two-step verification PIN. You will then need to wait 7 days before you can sign in again without the two-step verification PIN.</p>
<p>There are many tactics to get the two-step verification PIN. Here is one example doing the rounds: The <em>victim “Marlin”</em> will receive a message from a random person or from someone on his contact list. The <em>hacker “Neeren”</em> wants to borrow money to lend to someone else. Marlin does not have any money to lend. So, Hacker Neeren pretends to get the money elsewhere but by &#8220;mistake&#8221; sent Marlin the 6 digit OTP. Marlin who is feeling bad that he could not lend any money, then sends the OTP to Hacker Neeren who then steals Marlins WhatsApp. Hacker Neeren messages Marlins contacts pretending to be Marlin and wanting to borrow money from them. If money is not given then Hacker Neeren tries to steal their WhatsApp, as he did to Marlin. The cycle continues. NEVER SHARE OTP’S WITH ANYONE. Don’t be like Marlin!</p>
<p>Here are seven tips to secure your WhatsApp and prevent unauthorized access. The first tip is the <strong><em>MOST IMPORTANT</em></strong> and should be enabled on your smartphone immediately. It will only take about 60 seconds to set up but it can save you a lot of stress. Not only can it protect you but also your friends and family from losing their hard-earned money and getting their Whatsapp hacked.</p>
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">1. Enable Two-Step Verification</h2>
<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="alignright size-full is-resized"><a href="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/1.-WhatsApps-two-step-verification-settings.jpg"><img decoding="async" width="512" height="768" src="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/1.-WhatsApps-two-step-verification-settings.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-13979" style="width: 179px; height: auto;" srcset="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/1.-WhatsApps-two-step-verification-settings.jpg 512w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/1.-WhatsApps-two-step-verification-settings-200x300.jpg 200w" sizes="(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px" /></a></figure>
</div>
<p>Two-step verification adds an extra layer of security by requiring a 6-digit PIN whenever you register your phone number with WhatsApp again. Once enabled, you will need this PIN to add WhatsApp on another device. To help you remember this PIN, WhatsApp will occasionally ask you to enter it when you open the app.</p>

<p><strong>How to Enable It:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Open WhatsApp</li>

<li>Go to <strong><em>Settings</em></strong> &gt; <em><strong>Account</strong> </em>&gt; <strong><em>Two-step verification</em></strong></li>

<li>Tap <strong>Enable</strong>, then enter a 6-digit PIN</li>
</ul>

<div class="wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-ad2f72ca wp-block-group-is-layout-flex">
<p>*<em>Optionally, you can add an email address for recovery</em></p>
</div>

<p></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">2. Be Cautious of Verification Codes</h2>

<p>If someone asks you for your WhatsApp 6-digit verification code, it&#8217;s a scam.</p>
<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="alignright size-full is-resized"><a href="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/3.-fake-WhatsApp-message-asking-for-verification-code.jpg"><img decoding="async" width="512" height="512" src="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/3.-fake-WhatsApp-message-asking-for-verification-code.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-13981" style="width: 185px; height: auto;" srcset="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/3.-fake-WhatsApp-message-asking-for-verification-code.jpg 512w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/3.-fake-WhatsApp-message-asking-for-verification-code-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/3.-fake-WhatsApp-message-asking-for-verification-code-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/3.-fake-WhatsApp-message-asking-for-verification-code-100x100.jpg 100w" sizes="(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px" /></a></figure>
</div>
<p><strong>Never share your code</strong> with anyone — not even friends or family.</p>

<p><strong>Real-World Trick:</strong> Hackers may pose as someone you know and claim they &#8220;accidentally sent their WhatsApp code to your number.&#8221; Many people have fallen for this trick.</p>

<p></p>

<p></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">3. Don’t Fall for Phishing Links</h2>

<p>Avoid clicking on suspicious links sent via WhatsApp or email. These links can lead to phishing sites that steal your login information or install spyware on your device.</p>
<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="alignright size-full is-resized"><a href="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/2.-phishing-link-red-flags-highlighted.jpg"><img decoding="async" width="768" height="512" src="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/2.-phishing-link-red-flags-highlighted.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-13980" style="width: 208px; height: auto;" srcset="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/2.-phishing-link-red-flags-highlighted.jpg 768w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/2.-phishing-link-red-flags-highlighted-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/2.-phishing-link-red-flags-highlighted-672x448.jpg 672w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></a></figure>
</div>
<p><strong>Tips:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Check URLs carefully — look for misspellings or unusual domains/website names.</li>

<li>Android users should not install APK files from untrusted sources.</li>
</ul>

<p></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">4. Log Out of Suspicious Devices</h2>

<p>Check which devices are logged into your WhatsApp via **Linked Devices**. These linked devices can send and receive messages, view chat history, and share media.</p>
<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="alignright size-full is-resized"><a href="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/4.-WhatsApp-linked-devices-screen-suspicious-session-removed.jpg"><img decoding="async" width="512" height="512" src="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/4.-WhatsApp-linked-devices-screen-suspicious-session-removed.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-13982" style="width: 182px; height: auto;" srcset="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/4.-WhatsApp-linked-devices-screen-suspicious-session-removed.jpg 512w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/4.-WhatsApp-linked-devices-screen-suspicious-session-removed-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/4.-WhatsApp-linked-devices-screen-suspicious-session-removed-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/4.-WhatsApp-linked-devices-screen-suspicious-session-removed-100x100.jpg 100w" sizes="(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px" /></a></figure>
</div>
<p><strong>Steps:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Open WhatsApp</li>

<li>Tap the three dots and select &#8220;<strong><em>Linked devices</em></strong>&#8220;</li>

<li>If you see an unrecognized device, tap on it and choose &#8220;<strong><em>Log out</em></strong>&#8220;</li>
</ul>

<p></p>

<p></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">5. Lock WhatsApp with Fingerprint or Face ID</h2>

<p>You can add biometric protection to WhatsApp on your device, ensuring that only you can access the app. This way, if someone gets hold of your smartphone, they won’t be able to access your WhatsApp messages or Link their device to your WhatsApp</p>
<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="alignright size-full is-resized"><a href="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/fingerprint-lock-whatsapp.png"><img decoding="async" width="1493" height="865" src="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/fingerprint-lock-whatsapp.png" alt="" class="wp-image-13988" style="width: 213px; height: auto;" srcset="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/fingerprint-lock-whatsapp.png 1493w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/fingerprint-lock-whatsapp-300x174.png 300w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/fingerprint-lock-whatsapp-1024x593.png 1024w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/fingerprint-lock-whatsapp-768x445.png 768w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/fingerprint-lock-whatsapp-1080x626.png 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 1493px) 100vw, 1493px" /></a></figure>
</div>
<p><strong>How to Set It Up:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Go to <strong>Settings</strong> &gt; <strong>Privacy</strong> &gt; <strong>Fingerprint Lock</strong> (Android) or <strong>Screen Lock</strong> (iPhone)</li>

<li>Enable it and set a time frame for auto-lock</li>
</ul>

<p></p>

<p></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">6. Be Smart About Public Wi-Fi</h2>

<p>Using free public Wi-Fi can make it easier for hackers to intercept data on your device. While you may think that it is free Wi-Fi and it wont hurt to use it, this presents numerous security risks.</p>
<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="alignright size-full is-resized"><a href="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/6.-hacker-trying-to-access-devices-on-public-Wi-Fi.jpg"><img decoding="async" width="512" height="512" src="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/6.-hacker-trying-to-access-devices-on-public-Wi-Fi.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-13984" style="width: 185px; height: auto;" srcset="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/6.-hacker-trying-to-access-devices-on-public-Wi-Fi.jpg 512w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/6.-hacker-trying-to-access-devices-on-public-Wi-Fi-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/6.-hacker-trying-to-access-devices-on-public-Wi-Fi-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/6.-hacker-trying-to-access-devices-on-public-Wi-Fi-100x100.jpg 100w" sizes="(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px" /></a></figure>
</div>
<p><strong>Recommendations:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Avoid accessing sensitive apps on open networks (especially banking apps)</li>

<li>Use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) for safer browsing</li>
</ul>

<p></p>

<p></p>

<p></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">7. Watch for Unusual Activity</h2>

<p>If your friends begin receiving strange messages from you or you suddenly find yourself logged out, it could indicate that your account has been compromised.</p>
<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="alignright size-full is-resized"><a href="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/7.-receiving-suspicious-WhatsApp-messages-from-a-friend.jpg"><img decoding="async" width="512" height="512" src="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/7.-receiving-suspicious-WhatsApp-messages-from-a-friend.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-13985" style="width: 168px; height: auto;" srcset="https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/7.-receiving-suspicious-WhatsApp-messages-from-a-friend.jpg 512w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/7.-receiving-suspicious-WhatsApp-messages-from-a-friend-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/7.-receiving-suspicious-WhatsApp-messages-from-a-friend-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.northcoastcellular.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/7.-receiving-suspicious-WhatsApp-messages-from-a-friend-100x100.jpg 100w" sizes="(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px" /></a></figure>
</div>
<p><strong>What to Do:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
